How to Repurpose Content for Different Platforms

If there is one thing that every content creator has in common, it’s that they have given up on themselves and their business at least once! Let’s be real. It’s more like at least 5 times!

Regardless of the actual number, we have all been there. And one of the biggest reasons that we have for giving up is that we feel like we have to make a ton of content EVERY.SINGLE.DAY.

But that’s not the case. Yes, you should always be creating new content, but you don’t need to do it as many times as you would think. Especially if you’re creating content for multiple platforms.

You can simply take one piece of content and repurpose it as many times as you want to perform on different social platforms.

In this post, I’m going to share with you a few different ways that you can make one piece of content work on different platforms by giving some of my own strategies away!

Repurposing Long Form Content

There are so many wonderful things about running a blog. Reaching new readers, writing about topics that interest me, getting to be creative with designs. But, one thing I really love is how I can use a blog post as inspiration for several pieces of content.

Take this post for example. Say I publish it on a Sunday (because I do, lol), and then a few days later I sit down to record a YouTube video. Instead of coming up with a new video topic and outlining a script, I can just use the blog topic as the video topic, and use the contents as a type of transcript.

Once my YouTube video has been recorded, edited, and published, I can then clip different parts from the video to use for IG and FB reels, YT shorts, Tik Tok (while it’s still available in the US), and Pinterest.

Another thing I like to do is take an excerpt from a blog post and use it as an educational tip. I’ll open up Canva and create a fun infographic and plug the blog content into that. Then I’ll either share it straight to my IG feed or story. And then everything that gets posted to IG gets automatically shared to Facebook and Threads.

So in the end, your one piece of long form content gets broken down into several pieces of content that you can post every day of the week. And then you just rinse and repeat.

Repurposing Short Form Content

Of course, not everybody is using a blog or a YouTube channel and just want to focus on short form content. It’s easier and less time consuming. However, you do still have to put out content every day in order to build a following.

Let’s say I film a cooking video. I then plug it into a video editing app ( I use Capcut). I can then create two different videos from that one. I can create a longer one where I share more details of the recipe and everything that goes into it. I can then make another video of “B-Roll” content, which is just shots of me doing stuff, and then use that as a shorter reel that you can put trending audio with and then add some informational text.

Don’t neglect your old content either! If you’ve been on a platform for a while, chances are that a good chunk of your audience hasn’t seen everything you’ve posted. If you have a piece of content from a year ago that performed really well, reshare and add some updates to it! One of my mentors posts 3 pieces of content to Tik Tok every day, and one of those pieces is always a video from exactly one year ago. She uses them as a “look how far I’ve come” example for her business and I think it’s brilliant!

Conclusion

I know for people who are starting their digital marketing journey, the process can seem really daunting at first. I know it was for me.

I spent too much time comparing myself to other creators and trying to copy what they were doing. That really showed in my content. I would also beat myself up if I didn’t create enough content for the day because all day I would think about what kind of video to make and then I would never do it because I would doubt myself.

Your content is not going to be great at first. No one ever comes out of the gate making perfect content. We all learn, struggle, and grow. Keep learning and investing in yourself. Don’t give up and just keep swimming!
